Ditch Flavored Yogurt & Go Greek

Flavored yogurt has a high level of corn starch, sugars, artificial flavoring, and almost no nutritional value. We have always been drawn to the idea that yogurt is healthy and dietetically acceptable, and it is! All you have to do is switch to natural, plain Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is high in protein and low in sugars, not to mention very versatile to prepare. A lot of people don't enjoy Greek yogurt by itself, but you can easily modify it with your own favorite fruits and nuts to make a more appealing to your taste buds. Below are a couple examples on how I sweeten up my own yogurt, but you can be creative and use different elements!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
El yogur de sabor tiene altos niveles de azúcares, almidón de maíz, y sabores artificiales con casi cero valor nutritivo. Siempre hemos tenido la idea que el yogur es saludable, y aceptado en el mundo de las dietas, ¡y lo es! Sólo tenemos que sustituirlo con el yogur Griego plano. El yogur Griego es alto en proteína, bajo en azúcares, y muy versátil para preparar. A mucha gente no les gusta el sabor del yogur Griego así solo, pero lo puedes modificar con tus frutas favoritas y frutos secos para que le agrade mas a sus papilas gustativas. Abajo deje un par de ejemplos de como endulzo mi yogur, pero puedes ser creativa(o) ¡y usar elementos diferentes!
Peach and Strawberries Smoothie with Seeds
I am a huge fan of simplicity. I like to eat healthy and delicious, without having to spend too much time in the kitchen. This recipe is perfect for those of you who are like me, always running around, super busy. This smoothie can be enjoyed as breakfast, post-workout, or even dessert! I included three types of seeds because they are packed with goodness for your body, and it will double the intake of vitamins in a serving. Besides that the peach and strawberries are divine, the almond milk is a healthy alternative for regular milk, since it has calcium and benefits your skin from the inside out.
What you'll need:
Peach
Strawberries
Almond Milk
Flax seed
Chia seed
Hemp seed
Blender
All three seeds have protein, amino acids, antioxidants, fiber, and omega-3. Plus, the delicious fruit and almond milk make a great drink. Here is a little background on the seeds I used, so you get an idea on how good they are for your body.
  • Flax seed: helps reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes.
  • Chia seed: this one has become very popular lately, but this superfood was often used back in the day by the Aztecs and Mayans. Chia is the ancient Mayan word for "strength." Chia is naturally sugar-free, low in calories and rich in vitamins.
  • Hempseed: one of the best vegetarian sources of protein. Not only does it contain omega-3 but also omega-6 (good fats), excellent source of iron and magnesium.
Yo soy fan de la simplicidad. Me encantan las recetas sencillas, al punto y sin gastar tanto tiempo en la cocina, pero que también sean deliciosas. Esta receta es perfecta para aquellas personas que siempre están corriendo de un lado a otro, y son super ocupadas. El licuado se puede tomar como desayuno, después de hacer ejercicio, ¡o hasta de postre! También incluí semillas, que son buenísimas para tu bien estar y enriquecen el valor nutritivo de tu licuado. Aparte de los duraznos y fresas que son exquisitas, la leche de almendras es una muy buena y saludable alternativa a la leche regular, ya que ofrece beneficios para los huesos y la piel.
Lo que necesitaras:
Duraznos
Fresas
Leche de Almendras
Linaza
Chía
Cáñamo
Licuadora
Las tres semilla que use tienen proteína, aminoácidos, fibra y omega-3. Ademas, la fruta y leche de almendras que hacen que la bebida sea riquísima. Aquí les dejo un poco de información sobre las semillas y sus beneficios.
  • Linaza: ayuda a reducir el riesgo de enfermedades del corazón, cancer y accidentes cerebrovascular y la diabetes.
  • Chía:  la semilla de chía se a puesto muy de moda ahora, pero esta comida ha existido por siglos y fue disfrutada por los Mayas y Aztecas en aquellos tiempos -- le llamaban la semilla de "fuerza" por sus ventajas nutritivas. La chía es naturalmente libre de azúcar, baja en calorías, y rica en vitaminas.
  • Cáñamo: unas de las mejores fuentes de proteína vegetarianas. No solo contiene omega-3 pero también tiene omega-6 (grasas buenas), es una excelente fuente de hierro y magnesio.
How To: Blueberry Frosting
I love good old chocolate frosting, but a pop of color on your cake, can make it a little more fun to eat. :)
INGREDIENTS:
  1. Sugar
  2. Cream cheese (or just vanilla frosting)
  3. Blueberries
Take out the cream cheese or frosting out of the fridge a few minutes before you begin the process. Once the cream is thawed out, place a small amount in a food processor, then add a few blueberries until you get a smooth consistency. Lastly, add the remaining cream and blueberries to your processor and continue to mix until you finish. Spread the icing as normal.
Me encanta el merengue clásico de chocolate, pero de vez en cuando, me gusta comer un pastelito con algunos colores fosforescentes. :)
INGREDIENTES:
  1. Azúcar
  2. Queso-crema (o merengue de vainilla)
  3. Arándanos morados
Asegura de sacar el queso-crema o merengue de vainilla unos minutos fuera del refrigerador antes de comenzar a preparar. Ponga un poco de crema y arándanos en un procesador de alimentos y muela hasta que quede con una consistencia suave y lisa. Continue con el resto de crema y arándanos hasta que termine. Ponga el merengue en su pastel como normal, ¡y provecho!
Chia, Sandia
What you'll need: watermelon, lime, chia seeds, water, ice, pitcher... Ok you get the idea!
I am not a fan of spending money on things I KNOW how to make. So instead of taking trips to Starbucks and spend about $5 on a fruity drink, I decided to go to my fridge and get a little creative.
I filled up a pitcher with fresh water,
I chopped watermelon pieces into small squares,
squeezed lime, added chia seeds and ice... Et voilà!
So good and healthy! The waters is basically infused with watermelon and lime. The chia is 'the icing on the cake' due to all the benefits it has to offer such as: fiber, amino acids, protein, omega-3 and antioxidants. Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lo que necesitaras: sandia, limón, semilla de chia, agua, hielo, jarra... ¡Bueno, ya tendras la idea!
Yo no soy fan de gastar dinero en cosas que yo se hacer yo misma. Así que decidí no gastar 5 dólares por una bebida de Starbucks, y visite mi refrigerador.
Llene mi jarra con agua fresca,
corte mi sandia en cuadritos,
exprimi un limón, agregué las semilla de chia y el hielo... Y tara!
¡Es tan rico y saludable! El agua fresca de sandia con limón es el sabor, pero la semilla de chia es la que le tiene los beneficios mayores, ya que incluye: fibra, aminoácidos, proteína, omega-3, y antioxidantes. ¡Disfruta!
