3 Ways to Use an Entire Pineapple

"De piña para la niña"

If you are like me, and you don't like to waste anything reusable, this post is for you. Now that summer is here, pineapples are sold everywhere and let me tell you, you can do a number of things with one pineapple. Pineapples are abundant in vitamin C,  antioxidants that fight cell damage and maintain a youthful skin, helps with digestions due to its high amount of fiber, and is it anti-inflammatory properties– which brings me to the first project:

•Don't throw away the skin!

Make some pineapple-green-lemon tea. This one, I learned from my mother: after peeling a pineapple, use the skins to make some tea. In a pot add sufficient water, a slice of lemon, a green tea bag, and the pineapple slices, boil et voilà! If you are catching a cold, or feel a bit bloated after a heavy dinner, drink up!

•Freeze the fruit

Wrap the slices of pineapples in some plastic and freeze it to create the yummiest, most refreshing smoothie ever!

•Plant a pineapple

Find a pot and fill it up with sufficient soil, cut off the leafy top, and plant it. Give it a month or so to see it grow.

Sandía and Mint

Does anything sound more refreshing than cold watermelon and mint? Didn't think so! I know summer is over, but if you love to eat watermelon year-round like me, this is a delicious way to enjoy it. (Keep in mind that you can also try it with oranges, peaches, kiwis, you name it.)

Ingredients:

  • Watermelon
  • Honey
  • Mint
  • Lime

This is one of my favorite snacks and I think honey just makes everything better! You will need to chop the mint, squeeze the lime and pour the honey over the diced watermelon. Consider spiking your watermelon with tequila, I didn't add any in this one because I shared it with a minor.
Enjoy!

¡Disfruta!

Fiesta Dish

I love eating almost as much as I love cooking, and while I am not the best in the kitchen, I also like to think I'm not the worst. I was born into a Hispanic family and food just comes with the package. I learned a thing or two about Mexican food, although I can't always eat original recipes because they are deliciously fattening in some cases, I decided to modify some meals. This is one of my go-to meals as lunch or dinner, super easy and practical.

Ingredients:
  • Sprouts
  • Black or pinto beans (your choice)
  • Cilantro
  • Salsa of choice
  • Avocado
  • Rice
  • Chicken
*The chicken was marinated a night before with lime, crushed red pepper, coconut oil, salt and pepper.

Enjoy!

¡Disfruta!

Ditch Flavored Yogurt & Go Greek

Flavored yogurt has a high level of corn starch, sugars, artificial flavoring, and almost no nutritional value. We have always been drawn to the idea that yogurt is healthy and dietetically acceptable, and it is! All you have to do is switch to natural, plain Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is high in protein and low in sugars, not to mention very versatile to prepare. A lot of people don't enjoy Greek yogurt by itself, but you can easily modify it with your own favorite fruits and nuts to make a more appealing to your taste buds. Below are a couple examples on how I sweeten up my own yogurt, but you can be creative and use different elements!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
El yogur de sabor tiene altos niveles de azúcares, almidón de maíz, y sabores artificiales con casi cero valor nutritivo. Siempre hemos tenido la idea que el yogur es saludable, y aceptado en el mundo de las dietas, ¡y lo es! Sólo tenemos que sustituirlo con el yogur Griego plano. El yogur Griego es alto en proteína, bajo en azúcares, y muy versátil para preparar. A mucha gente no les gusta el sabor del yogur Griego así solo, pero lo puedes modificar con tus frutas favoritas y frutos secos para que le agrade mas a sus papilas gustativas. Abajo deje un par de ejemplos de como endulzo mi yogur, pero puedes ser creativa(o) ¡y usar elementos diferentes!
Chia, Sandia
What you'll need: watermelon, lime, chia seeds, water, ice, pitcher... Ok you get the idea!
I am not a fan of spending money on things I KNOW how to make. So instead of taking trips to Starbucks and spend about $5 on a fruity drink, I decided to go to my fridge and get a little creative.
I filled up a pitcher with fresh water,
I chopped watermelon pieces into small squares,
squeezed lime, added chia seeds and ice... Et voilà!
So good and healthy! The waters is basically infused with watermelon and lime. The chia is 'the icing on the cake' due to all the benefits it has to offer such as: fiber, amino acids, protein, omega-3 and antioxidants. Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lo que necesitaras: sandia, limón, semilla de chia, agua, hielo, jarra... ¡Bueno, ya tendras la idea!
Yo no soy fan de gastar dinero en cosas que yo se hacer yo misma. Así que decidí no gastar 5 dólares por una bebida de Starbucks, y visite mi refrigerador.
Llene mi jarra con agua fresca,
corte mi sandia en cuadritos,
exprimi un limón, agregué las semilla de chia y el hielo... Y tara!
¡Es tan rico y saludable! El agua fresca de sandia con limón es el sabor, pero la semilla de chia es la que le tiene los beneficios mayores, ya que incluye: fibra, aminoácidos, proteína, omega-3, y antioxidantes. ¡Disfruta!
